A large pub, now seems to be focussing on the food side of things more and more with its attached Thai restaurant.

Mr & Mrs Were Regulars 11/12/2007 12:08:23
The Boddington Arms as we knew it has changed, after a lifetime of being named The Boddington Arms (the Boddies to locals) Orchid Group have decided to rename it the Boddington & Dragon !! (not a popular change). The entire place has undergone a huge refurbishment, which it was needing, BUT the restaurant at the rear is now ONLY serving Thai food and not catering at all for families as in most cases children do not like Thai food, this is very disappointing as the previous landlord, Juan, always welcomed families and his locals and regulars who now do not seem welcome or catered for. The bar area is advertised as a traditional English Pub, this is a joke - it does not have any charactaristics of an english pub, the Bar Menu is mostly Thai with maybe 4 english options and again nothing for younger eaters. On the occassions we have visited since it re-opened at the beginning of Dec 2007 we have seen people walk in, have a drink then go elsewhere, we've seen guests from the Premier Inn(which is located at the rear of the pub) also leave due to the lack of choice of food on the menu, several going down the road to the Honey Bee pub for english meals, this is a real shame as there was always a good rapor in this pub between the locals and hotel guests, even people on their own did not feel uncomfortable. I am sure there will be a huge knock-on effeect for the attached Premier Inn. Some nights in there are quite busy but lets face it, who wants to eat Thai 7 nights a week?? and as it's slowly losing it's regulars it is only a matter of time before the place is empty. It suffered a name change some years back ( to The Range) this didn't work then, and we doubt it's working now. So, why not go and see for yourself, give it a try and please let the new owners know what you think, this is surely the only way to correct a bad mistake.
